Kausay: The Living Energy of the Universe
Kausay - When we study the Cosmology of the Andean shamans, we start here. The Kausay is Divine Life Force Energy, the living energy of the universe, which infuses the world with consciousness. Energy interacts with energy to become expressed in physical form. Therefore, as the quantum physicists are now saying, everything is an expression of energy. And even the most forward-thinking physicists are now seeing evidence that underlying energy is something we may call “consciousness.” The ancients knew this long before we developed electron microscopes.
Like Russian nesting dolls, the universe consists of layers of energy, each layer giving birth to the expression of an inner layer, one inside the other. An example given is the energy expressing itself as an White Oak tree. The energy of the entire universe creates the energy of living beings, which creates the energy of plants, which creates the energy of trees, which creates the energy of each kind of tree including the Oak, which creates the energy of all varieties of Oaks, including the White Oak.
From this perspective, everything is a part of the Kausay, inextricably interconnected parts of the ONE unity of Creation. And as the Kausay is also Divine Consciousness, everything in existence also is an expression of consciousness.
This Divine Life Force Energy is in and throughout all things, as the creative force that guides and animates the unfolding of the Universe. As Andean Mystics, we believe nothing is separate from the Creative Force that some call “God”. We see Creation as Divine and the Creative Force as perfect. We can choose to try to impose our human will on things, which impedes the Living Energy, or we can choose to allow the energy of Divine Creation to flow unimpeded within and through us.
The Pampamesayok, or Andean shaman or healer, calls working at the level of the energetic “pushing the Kausay.” What these masters of the Living Energy are doing is bending reality. What we think of as rigid and unchanging laws that determine how things work are actually flexible and malleable when guided by powerful directed consciousness. And great miracles of bending reality have been witnessed. When the Spaniards came up the high and remote mountain passes to try to conquer the Q’ero people, they made offerings to their sacred mountain for protection, and sure enough, stones fell in an avalanche that buried the invaders. And when small pox was devastating the indigenous population, a great Altomesayok was able to work healing powers to heal those afflicted with the deadly disease.
All shamans bring about great healing, not by forcing the physical dimension of reality into being, so much by guiding the flow of energy towards healing. This is why we call it “Energy Medicine.” And the shaman will say, “It is not I who healed you, I allowed the healing energy to flow through me and YOU did the work of receiving it.”
